Santa Clause 2

Sunday, Nov. 03, 2002 - 9:08 p.m.

I went into this movie with such a positive attitude. I've seen the first one so many times I thought for sure this one would be just as good. Well that's not entirely true..I thought it would be good at least. However the only word I can really use to describe this movie and not be too positive or too negative is "cute".

The movie is rated G so you know it can't do too much. Although the movie Babe (1995) was rated G and it should have gotten a PG-13 at least. But what do I know?? I personally think the way movies are rated today is a bit too leaniant. Also, no offense but am I the only one who thinks it's kind of stupid to have one movie be rated one thing and it's sequels rated something else. For example. The first National Lampoon's Vacation movie is rated R, the last one that took place in Las Vegas, is PG. Now who ever heard of a series of movies that if you're about 12 you can't see the first movie but you have to start with the last one??

Anyways..back to the "Santa Clause 2". The previews don't lie. Saint Nick has to find a wife. Not a bad plot but definitly not handled well. The woman who Scott allegedly falls for seems to turn from being a bitch to being all nice from one scene to the next. Scott goes from not liking her at all to all of sudden loving her.

The same actors who played Charlie,(Eric Lloyd) Laura (Wendy Crewson) and Neil (Judge Reinhold) are in this and all I can say is YIKES!! Charlie has the same face but the voice is so different!! I know that's to be expected but damn..I didn't expect it to change into sounding like a completely different person. Even his personality is completely different. As for Laura..tell me 8 years doesn't change a person THAT much. Neil was actually somewhat recognizable. Although the personality was the opposite of the last movie. In the last movie he didn't like Scott,(Tim Allen) was stuck up..and in this movie..he acts like Scott is his best friend..even calls him "buddy" numerous times. Also he never gave a real smile in the first one..in this movie, he's smiling all the time.

Scott/Santa goes back to try to help Charlie and find a new wife. One of the elves clone him so things can be taken care of at the North Pole. Sorry Disney..that was stupid stupid stupid. The clone was an idiot and looked like Tim Allen on helium.

The movie had cute moments. The best scenes are the ones with the reindeer. That's pretty sad considering the reindeer moments only make up about 10% of the movie. It was nice to see an update though. And of course it did have a happy ending, although very predictable.
