Christmas Spirit

2001-12-18 - 7:58 p.m.

One week until Christmas. In some ways it feel like it's come quickly, in other ways it seems it hasn't gotten here quick enough.

In many ways I can't wait for Christmas to be here, for the obvious reasons. But there is a part of me, unsure of how big a part..that doesn't want it to get here just yet. Once December 26th comes, the Christmas spirit will diminish, the decorations will start coming down and people will start hoping Spring comes soon.

I love the Christmas decorations. Driving down streets thru town looking at all the decorations hanging from the poles and the stores decorated. Seeing the houses covered in Christmas lights and Christmas themed characters in the yards.

The spirit of Christmas seems to start going away as soon as December 26th starts and it doesn't come back for another 11 months, which is kind of sad.

Many people want a white Christmas. They want to look outside and see everything covered in beautiful sparkling snow. But once Christmas is done..they start praying that the weather stays clear and not too cold.

Another thing, the homeless get treated better on Christmas. On Christmas day they get a good meal, a warm place to stay, and many donations from other people to help them. People want to donate money and toys to help around Christmas. Once Christmas passes, they must think the homeless uses their trust funds to live on until next Christmas. Same as 9/11. People started wanting to donate money, as much as possible to help the people affected by that day. Where was that spirit in Oklahoma City 6 and a half years ago?? Some people think they need a holiday or a tragedy as a reason to help and be kind to others.

Here's a picture I took last night.
