Depressing News Stories Lately

2002-02-25 - 9:33 p.m.

The news really is quite depressing lately. Almost every story in the news is a downer. It's either some big scandal or someone is being killed. Just look at all the news stories of the last few weeks:

Daniel Pearl: He gets kidnapped and supposedly murdered. Why?? Because there are evil creatures in this world who have no compassion or a fully functioning brain.

Danielle van Dam: The 7 year old girl who has been missing for the last couple of weeks. They now think she is dead. Well I'd say that's a pretty good assumption considering the main suspect left town the day she was reported missing, he's in prison now and her blood was found in his mobile home.

Olympics Scandals: Oh yes, how could we forget the numerous scandals?? They should call this year's Olympics: Olympic Gate. Just about every day I got online to check the news headlines another big scandal from the Olympics emerged.

Enron: A simple case of the rich wanting to get richer. Rather sick actually if you as me.

Georgia Cremation, Or Rather Lack There Of: I was wrong in my opinion a few days ago that this was like "The Blair Witch Project". This is by far sicker and more disturbing.

Andrea Yates: A woman who drowned her kids then says she's not the one to blame. Oh really woman?? Who is?? Did Casper turn into a bad ghost and kill those kids?? I see this woman in pictures sitting there, emotionless and I realize my idea of having people get licensed in order to have kids is looking better and better.

Deputy Kills Soldier In North Carolina: A cop thinks he's approching 2 soldiers going psycho. He kills one of them and injures the other thinking they're for real. They're doing some rehearsal, a cop approaches them and one of them yells "shoot him, shoot him!!". Now I would sure as hell think my life was in danger. Now there's an investigation and the cop is on administrative leave. For what?? Protecting himself against 2 idiots yelling "Shoot him, shoot him!!"

Bin Laden Is Probably Alive: I think that one speaks for itself. The guy is Superman in a turban.

Helicopter Crash Kills 10: I'm telling you, the United States is going to have more military casulties due to stupidity and accidents than by the enemy.

These downer news stories are making me tempted not to even watch the news or look up the news online for awhile. Watching the news lately is like sitting around in a therapy group listening to everyone's sob stories.
